Creating Beautiful Bedrooms for Children to Thrive

A Happy 5 Year Old Moves Back Into Her Own Room

Before

This little girl had a lovely bed but really needed a new mattress and bedding.  She preferred to sleep with a sibling instead of in her own bed.  The curtain rod was broken and the drapery panel had a hole in it.  The electrical outlets were decades old and one was faulty.  Although the room was painted purple, her favourite colour, the depth of tone made the room seem small.  The trim was a dark colour as well.

We used a very strong primer to seal the walls and trim.  Then we painted the room a light mauve shade and brightened it with white trim.  We replaced both electrical outlets and hung a new white curtain rod.  The sheer pink curtains were a gift from her grandmother.  This little girl now has a good mattress topped with a sheet set featuring princesses from her favourite movie, Frozen.   She also received a duvet, a pillow and a hand made mauve and white throw.  She was delighted to see a desk and chair as well as new school supplies.  We brought in a small bookcase and several books as she loves books.

We did this upgrade in summer heat so one of our volunteers donated a good fan for this room.  On seeing her new space, this little girl announced she would certainly be sleeping in here from now on.
